About Us

The Saiva Vellala community in Kerala represents a culturally rich and spiritually rooted group with deep connections to the traditions of Saivism and Tamil–Dravidian heritage. Historically, the Vellalas were known as a prominent agrarian and landholding community in South India, but within Kerala, the Saiva Vellalas gained recognition not only for their social standing but also for their devotion to Shaiva philosophy and temple-centered cultural life.

The community played an important role in the preservation and patronage of temples, arts, and literature associated with Shaivism. They upheld rituals, festivals, and practices centered on Lord Shiva, often maintaining close ties with Chola-era temple traditions and Tamil cultural influences that found resonance in Kerala’s spiritual landscape.
